Should I replace my gas boiler with a heat pump?

If your home is reasonably insulated, you have room for a cylinder and an outdoor unit, and you plan to stay a few years, a heat pump with the £7,500 grant usually makes sense. If the house leaks heat, has tiny radiators or you’re moving soon, a new boiler is the better buy for now. The survey gives you the honest answer.

How much does it cost to replace a boiler with a heat pump?

From £2,500 after the £7,500 grant for a typical three bed home, including the cylinder, controls and removing the old boiler, with zero VAT on the installation. Compare that with a new boiler from £2,000 fitted. Both are quoted as fixed prices after the survey.

Will I need new radiators?

Often some, not all. Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures, so radiators that were marginal with a boiler may need upsizing. The survey measures every one and tells you exactly which, if any.

What happens to my combi boiler and hot water?

The combi is removed, which the grant requires, and a hot water cylinder is fitted, usually in an airing cupboard, loft or utility. You’ll have stored hot water rather than on demand, and we size the cylinder so it doesn’t run out.

Are heat pumps cheaper to run than gas?

Usually, yes, when the system is designed properly and you’re on a suitable electricity tariff. A well set up heat pump produces three to four units of heat for every unit of electricity. We include a running cost estimate with the quote so you can see it for your home.

Can you do it if I’m off the gas grid, on oil or LPG?

Yes, and those homes currently qualify for a £9,000 grant rather than £7,500. The oil tank or LPG supply is decommissioned as part of the job.
