How do I check a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?

Search the business name or registration number on the Gas Safe Register, or ask to see the ID card and check the photo, the expiry date and the appliance list on the back. Ours is GAS_SAFE_NUMBER.

What's the difference between Gas Safe and CORGI?

CORGI was the old scheme. Gas Safe Register replaced it in 2009 and is the only legal registration for gas work in the UK now. Anyone still calling themselves CORGI registered is out of date.

What does "approved installer" or "accredited installer" mean?

The boiler manufacturer has trained and checked the engineer. Worcester Bosch, Baxi and Ideal only give their longer warranties when the boiler is fitted by an approved installer, which is why it matters who fits it, not just what’s fitted.

Are you qualified for heating work as well as gas?

Yes. Gas Safe covers the gas side: boilers, cookers, fires and pipework. We’re also qualified for the heating side: radiators, pumps, valves, underfloor and controls, and NICEIC registered for the electrical work that comes with a boiler install. See our heating engineer page.

What paperwork do I get after gas work?

A Gas Safe notification and Building Regulations certificate for a new boiler, a CP12 certificate for a landlord safety check, and a signed service record for a boiler service. All emailed to you and kept on file.

Search for Blackthorne Plumbing on the Gas Safe Register. It shows the work we’re qualified for, and that the registration is current. It’s illegal for anyone not on the register to work on gas.

Ask to See
the ID Card

Sharif carries his Gas Safe ID card on every job. The front shows the photo and expiry date, the back lists the appliances he’s qualified to work on: boilers, cookers, fires and pipework. Ask for it, we expect you to.
