Gas Fire Removal and Installation in Wednesbury, Walsall

A customer in Wednesbury got in touch with me recently because their old gas fire had seen better days. It had been in place for a long time and they wanted it taken out and replaced with a new one. It is the kind of job that needs to be done carefully and done right, so I went out to have a look and we agreed a plan to remove the old fire and fit a new one in its place.

Taking Out the Old Gas Fire

Before anything else, I made the existing gas supply to the fire safe and disconnected it properly. Removing a gas fire is not just a case of lifting it out. You have to make sure the gas line is dealt with safely before you touch anything else. Once that was done I was able to take the old fire out and clear the area ready for the new installation.

Fitting the New Gas Fire

With the old fire out, I fitted the new gas fire into the fireplace opening. This involves connecting the fire to the gas supply and making sure every connection is tight and correct. I carry out all gas work as a Gas Safe registered engineer. Gas Safe is the official registration scheme for gas engineers in the UK. It means I am qualified and legally allowed to work on gas appliances in your home. You should always check that anyone working on your gas appliances holds this registration.

Testing the Gas Line and the Chimney

Once the new fire was in place, the job was not finished. I tested the gas line to check there were no leaks anywhere in the system. A gas fire also needs to vent the fumes it produces safely up through the chimney, so I carried out a chimney test as well. This checks that air is drawing correctly up through the chimney so that fumes are leaving the property the way they should. Both tests came back clear and the new fire was working correctly and safely.

The Result for the Customer

The customer in Wednesbury now has a new gas fire that works properly and has been tested to confirm it is safe. They had a clear idea of what they wanted and I was able to carry out the removal, installation and testing in a single visit. That is how I like to work.
