First Fix Plumbing and Central Heating Installation in Walsall

A customer in Park Hall, Walsall came to me needing a full first fix plumbing and central heating installation carried out throughout their property. First fix is the stage where all the hidden pipework gets run through the floors, walls and ceilings before anything gets plastered or finished off. It is the foundation that everything else sits on, so it has to be right.

What the Job Involved

This was a complete installation from scratch. I ran plastic pipe throughout the entire property to feed the central heating system and the plumbing circuits. Plastic pipe is lighter than copper, it does not corrode, and it handles expansion from heat well, which makes it a solid choice for a full installation like this.

I also positioned radiators in multiple rooms across the property as part of the central heating first fix. That means the radiators are fixed to the walls and the pipework runs to each one, ready to be connected up properly at the second fix stage. Getting the positioning right at this point matters. If the pipework goes in wrong here, it causes problems further down the line.

Why First Fix Matters

A lot of homeowners do not think much about first fix because it all gets hidden away once the building work progresses. But this is the stage where the whole system is laid out. If the pipework runs are poorly planned or the pipe sizes are wrong, the heating system will not perform as it should when it is eventually commissioned and switched on.

I take my time at this stage. I plan the runs carefully so the system will be balanced and efficient. I also make sure everything is fitted to the standard required for Gas Safe work. Being Gas Safe registered means I am qualified and checked to work on gas systems, and that covers the central heating side of this type of installation.
