Designer Radiator Installation in Walsall

A customer in Walsall came to me wanting to change their radiator. They had a standard horizontal radiator on the wall, but it was taking up a lot of space and they wanted something that looked a bit smarter. They had a young family and the room needed to work harder without feeling cluttered.

What the Customer Wanted

They had seen vertical designer radiators and liked the idea. A vertical radiator stands upright rather than running along the wall horizontally. It uses a much smaller stretch of wall, which frees up space for furniture and just makes the room feel less busy. The customer wanted a clean, modern look in a white and grey finish to match the decor they already had.

What I Did on the Day

I removed the old radiator and made good the pipework underneath. Fitting a vertical radiator is not simply a case of swapping one for the other. The fixing points are in different positions, the pipe connections need to be moved to suit the new unit, and the radiator itself has to be correctly balanced so it heats evenly from top to bottom. Balancing a radiator means adjusting the flow of hot water through it so every part of it gets warm at the right rate. If that step is skipped, you end up with a radiator that is hot at one end and barely warm at the other.

I also checked the system pressure and made sure the new radiator was purged of air before I finished up. An airlock inside a radiator stops hot water circulating properly and leaves cold spots.

The Result

The finished radiator sits flush against the wall in a crisp white and grey finish. It takes up far less space than the old one and heats the room just as well. The customer was happy with how it looked and I was happy that it was working exactly as it should.
