What the Customer in Wednesbury Needed

A homeowner in Wednesbury came to me wanting their bathroom completely transformed. The room needed a full strip out and a fresh start. They had a clear idea of what they wanted. They were after a traditional Victorian look with a real sense of character. Nothing modern and minimal. Something with warmth, texture and a bit of history to it.

We talked through their ideas and I got a good picture of what they had in mind. Green wall tiles. A herringbone pattern. Gold fixtures throughout. A corner bath. A vanity sink unit. A towel radiator to keep the room warm and looking good at the same time. It was a strong brief and I was happy to take it on.

How the Installation Came Together

I started by stripping the bathroom back to bare walls and floor. That gave us a clean base to work from and meant we could check everything behind the scenes before fitting anything new.

The green wall tiles went up first. We laid them in a herringbone pattern, which means each tile is set at an angle to the one next to it, creating a zigzag effect. It takes more time to get right than a standard straight layout but it makes a real difference to how the finished room looks. It gives the walls movement and depth.

The corner bath went in next. This type of bath sits across a corner of the room rather than flat against one wall. It makes good use of the space and it suits the period feel the customer was going for. The vanity sink unit followed. A vanity unit is a sink that sits on top of or inside a cabinet, so you get storage underneath as well as a clean finish above.

All the fixtures throughout the room are finished in gold. The taps, the shower fittings, the towel radiator brackets. Keeping all the metal in one finish ties everything together. The towel radiator was plumbed in as part of the central heating system, so it heats up when the heating is running and keeps towels dry and warm between uses.

Every piece of pipework was fitted properly and tested before the room was signed off. All the work I carry out on gas and heating systems is done under my Gas Safe registration, so customers know it has been done to the right standard.

How the Finished Bathroom Looks

The finished room is exactly what the customer was after. The green tiles and gold fittings work really well together. The herringbone layout on the walls gives the room a lot of character without feeling overdone. The corner bath takes centre stage and the vanity unit keeps everything tidy underneath the sink.

It is the kind of bathroom that feels considered. Every detail points in the same direction. The customer was very happy with how it turned out and so was I.
